Review of Indian Food Tours in Delhi

"“Why would you not do this while in Delhi??!” If I had not seen the Taj Mahal during this trip, this food tour would easily be the best part of our stay in India. There are other food tours in India but based on TripAdvisor reviews I settled on this one. I also liked their website. So ordering is pretty easy, you pay online. I was a little nervous about doing that but after the experience there is really no reason for that. I selected Food Tour in Old Delhi because I know we probably would not be able to navigate that part of Delhi on our own. It was $200 USD for 2 people. The company said that if we add New Delhi to the tour, it would add about 1.5-2 hours but same cost so we did that. You know, because we love love to eat. So why not? I ordered mine 2 months in advance so communication was a little off in the beginning. I started getting nervous when I would not get response from the company via email. I called their number and did not get a hold of anybody. So just sharing my experience in case this happens to you. But then again I am little obsessive compulsive so take this with a grain of salt LOL. In the end however it did not matter because everything turned out perfectly. We got picked up from our Delhi hotel. The driver knew very little English and we were wary of getting into some stranger's car. But he showed us his cell phone with message from the company and our names, so that was fine. We picked up another lady from another hotel and that made it even more legit, and made us felt better. http://www.tripadvisor.in/ShowUserReviews-g304551-d3879008-r267734799-Indian_Food_Tours_in_Delhi-New_Delhi_National_Capital_Territory_of_Delhi.html#CHECK_RATES_CONT We met our tour guide Jaidev later and he rode in the car with us to Old Delhi. So you have to be prepared for Old Delhi. For me, it is exactly the kind of place I just love to visit. Old, not the cleanest, chaotic, colorful, historic and full of life. If you are not the adventurous kind this may not be the tour for you. We just LOVED the whole experience! It was Sunday so a lot of shops in the market were closed but it was still so many people and shops. I can only imagine what it is like when they are all open! We also visited the Spice market. We tasted so many foods, visited so many food stands. Sometimes it was just one person cooking food. We went to some restaurants also. We rode a bicycle cab throughout Old Delhi as that made the most sense in light of the crazy traffic. We walked everywhere, discovered little gems, spaces, alleys, neighborhoods. Amazing! Jaidev was so knowledgeable and navigated everything perfectly. He had hand sanitizer so hygience and food safety was also a priority. By the way, we never got sick from any of the food. No Delhi belly! We also stopped at Sikh temple (Bangla) where they feed the homeless and got to see people cooking in the kitchen. That was really great. We then drove to New Delhi and tasted more food. I love Indian food so this whole tour was just heaven. Although be forewarned.. you will be really really full. Try not to finish the dishes you sample.. this will allow for maximum tastings LOL. Then we were dropped off at our hotel. Jaidev didn't even take our tip! We did tip the driver. Anyways, I HIGHLY recommend this walking food tour. We learned so much, saw so many things, and ate the best food. What an amazing experience! "
